How to implement Open Source AI for Enterprise

While open source tools are critical for innovation in AI, they often fall short in fulfilling enterprise needs due to their complexity to install and manage, focus on individual users, and their inability to support enterprise-level features such as security, version control, compatibility, and scalable deployment.

An enterprise AI platform fills these gaps with:

  • Integrated Hosting & Version Management: Access updated, ready-to-use Open Source tools without manual installation or management.

  • Security risks: Open Source tools are often not as secure as commercial tools. This can make them vulnerable to cyberattacks.

  • Compliance issues: Open Source tools may not meet the compliance requirements of some businesses. This can lead to regulatory fines or other penalties.

  • Easy Collaboration & Deployment: Streamlined workflows for teamwork and asset deployment to production.

  • Lack of scalability: Open Source tools are often not designed for large datasets or complex models. This can lead to performance issues and delays in model deployment.

AI platforms are not replacing Open Source but enhancing it for better enterprise use.

My friend Luis Arellano (Product Lead at Google and IBM) wrote an extended blog describing each of those points in more detail and the solution.

🗞️Top News of the Week

MosaicML, a generative AI platform, has been acquired by Databricks for $1.3 billion. The deal will allow Databricks to expand its generative AI capabilities and offer its customers a more comprehensive platform for building and deploying AI models.

MosaicML is known for its state-of-the-art MPT large language models, which can be used for a variety of tasks, such as generating text, translating languages, and writing different kinds of creative content.

The acquisition is a sign of the growing importance of generative AI, which is a type of AI that can create new content, such as images, text, and music.

On June 22, 2023, Hugging Face CEO Clément Delangue testified before the U.S. Congress on the importance of open source AI.

Here are some key takeaways:

  • Open source AI is essential for democratizing AI and ensuring that its benefits are shared widely.

  • Open source AI faces a number of challenges, such as the lack of diversity in the AI workforce and the need for better funding and support for open source projects.

  • Congress can play a role in supporting open source AI by providing funding, promoting diversity in the AI workforce, and enacting policies that protect open source software.

"Open source AI is the only way to ensure that AI is developed and used for the benefit of all."

"We need to make sure that AI is not developed in a silo, but that it is open to everyone, regardless of their background or resources."

"We need to invest in open source AI so that it can continue to grow and thrive."

OpenAI is opening its first international office in London. The office will focus on advancing OpenAI's leading-edge research and engineering capabilities while collaborating with local communities and policymakers.

The opening of the London office is a significant milestone in OpenAI's growth and a testament to its commitment to ensuring that artificial general intelligence (AGI) benefits all of humanity. London is a vibrant technology hub with a strong pool of talent, making it an ideal location for OpenAI's first international office.

YouTube is testing a new AI-powered tool that will allow creators to automatically produce their videos in other languages.

The tool, which is called Aloud, was developed by Google's in-house incubator Area 120. Aloud works by first transcribing a video into text, then translating the text into the desired language, and finally generating an audio track in the new language.

Creators can review and edit the transcription and audio track before Aloud generates the dub. YouTube is currently testing the tool with hundreds of creators, and it plans to roll it out to more creators in the coming months.
